Who was John the Baptist?

The scripture gives a clear picture of who John the Baptizer is

His mother was from the tribe of Judah (the kings tribe) her name was Elizabeth and that she was the cousin of the Mary (the mother of Jesus who’s known as the Messiah)

Elizabeth was married to a Levite (the tribe of the Jewish high priests = descendant of Aaron brother of Moses) and both were old and they did not have a hope of having a child.

Luke 1:5-25 In the time of Herod king of Judea there was a priest named Zechariah, who belonged to the priestly division of Abijah; his wife Elizabeth was also a descendant of Aaron. Both of them were righteous in the sight of God, observing all the Lord’s commands and decrees blamelessly. But they were childless because Elizabeth was not able to conceive, and they were both very old. Once when Zechariah’s division was on duty and he was serving as priest before God, he was chosen by lot, according to the custom of the priesthood, to go into the temple of the Lord and burn incense. And when the time for the burning of incense came, all the assembled worshipers were praying outside. Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing at the right side of the altar of incense. When Zechariah saw him, he was startled and was gripped with fear. But the angel said to him: “Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to call him John. He will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth, for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He is never to take wine or other fermented drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even before he is born. He will bring back many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God. And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous—to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.” Zechariah asked the angel, “How can I be sure of this? I am an old man and my wife is well along in years.”The angel said to him, “I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news. And now you will be silent and not able to speak until the day this happens, because you did not believe my words, which will come true at their appointed time.”Meanwhile, the people were waiting for Zechariah and wondering why he stayed so long in the temple. When he came out, he could not speak to them. They realized he had seen a vision in the temple, for he kept making signs to them but remained unable to speak. When his time of service was completed, he returned home. After this his wife Elizabeth became pregnant and for five months remained in seclusion. “The Lord has done this for me,” she said. “In these days he has shown his favor and taken away my disgrace among the people.”

So what does the title the Baptizer/Baptist mean.

In the middle east there is a group of people called the Sabaean-Mandean the word Sabae means baptist or the one who is immersed under-water

The name can be related to few biblical passages starting at Gen 10:7 And the sons of Cush: Seba and Havilah and Sabtah and Raamah and Sabteca; and the sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan.

In Job 1 13One day when Job’s sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother’s house, 14a messenger came to Job and said, “The oxen were plowing and the donkeys were grazing nearby, 15and the Sabeans attacked and made off with them. They put the servants to the sword, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!”

1Ch 1:9 And the sons of Cush: Seba and Havilah and Sabta and Raama and Sabteca. And the sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan.

Eze 27:22 The traders of Sheba and Raamah did trade with you; they gave the best of all sorts of spices and all sorts of stones of great price and gold for your goods.

Isa 60:6 You will be full of camel-trains, even the young camels of Midian and Ephah; all from Sheba will come, with gold and spices, giving word of the great acts of the Lord.

Psa 72:1-20 Of Solomon. Give the king your authority, O God, and your righteousness to the king’s son. May he be a judge of your people in righteousness, and make true decisions for the poor. May the mountains give peace to the people, and the hills righteousness. May he be a judge of the poor among the people, may he give salvation to the children of those who are in need; by him let the violent be crushed. May his life go on as long as the sun and moon, through all generations. May he come down like rain on the cut grass; like showers watering the earth. In his days may the upright do well, living in peace as long as there is a moon in heaven. Let his kingdom be from sea to sea, from the River to the ends of the earth. Let those who are against him go down before him; and let his haters be low in the dust. Let the kings of Tarshish and of the islands come back with offerings; let the kings of Sheba and Seba give of their stores. Yes, let all kings go down before him; let all nations be his servants. For he will be a saviour to the poor in answer to his cry; and to him who is in need, without a helper. He will have pity on the poor, and be the saviour of those who are in need. He will keep their souls free from evil designs and violent attacks; and their blood will be of value in his eyes. May he have long life, and may gold from Sheba be given to him: may prayers be made for him at all times; may blessings be on him every day. May there be wide-stretching fields of grain in the land, shaking on the top of the mountains, full of fruit like Lebanon: may its stems be unnumbered like the grass of the earth. May his name go on for ever, as long as the sun: may men be blessing themselves by him; may all nations be blessing his name. Praise be to the Lord God, the God of Israel, the only doer of wonders. Praise to the glory of his noble name for ever; let all the earth be full of his glory. So be it, So be it.  The prayers of David, the son of Jesse, are ended. A Psalm. Of Asaph.

So John is his first name and the Baptist is the sect of Jews, just as Jesus called Jesus the Nazarene or Jesus the Galilaean (defining a new sect of Judaism) the name Nazarene refers to place but also a sect that is relevant to that place where that sect started.

In acts 24:5 “We have found this man to be a troublemaker, stirring up riots among the Jews all over the world. He is a ringleader of the Nazarene sect and even tried to desecrate the temple; so we seized him. (this refers to Paul being of the sect of Judaism called the Nazarenes because Jesus started his ministry or He is from city Nazareth in the providence of Galilee)

The Rock

Who or What is the Rock that Jesus was referring to in Matthew 16:18

  1. Is it Peter the apostle
  2. Is it the Statement which Peter said
  3. Is it Jesus Christ
  4. Is it the location being a rocky mountain (Mount Moriah) basin where the temple of Pan resided

Gen 49:24-26 “Joseph is a fruitful vine, a fruitful vine near a spring, whose branches climb over a wall. With bitterness archers attacked him; they shot at him with hostility. But his bow remained steady, his strong arms stayed limber, because of the hand of the Mighty One of Jacob, because of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel, because of your father’s God, who helps you, because of the Almighty, who blesses you with blessings of the skies above, blessings of the deep springs below, blessings of the breast and womb. Your father’s blessings are greater than the blessings of the ancient mountains, than the bounty of the age-old hills. Let all these rest on the head of Joseph, on the brow of the prince among his brothers.

Exo 17:5-6 The LORD answered Moses, “Go out in front of the people. Take with you some of the elders of Israel and take in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile, and go. I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it for the people to drink.” So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel.

Exo 33:18-23 Then Moses said, “Now show me your glory.” And the LORD said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the LORD, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live.” Then the LORD said, “There is a place near me where you may stand on a rock. When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by. Then I will remove my hand and you will see my back; but my face must not be seen.”

Num 20:7-13 The LORD said to Moses,  “Take the staff, and you and your brother Aaron gather the assembly together. Speak to that rock before their eyes and it will pour out its water. You will bring water out of the rock for the community so they and their livestock can drink.” Moses took the staff from the LORD’s presence, just as he commanded him. He and Aaron gathered the assembly together in front of the rock and Moses said to them, “Listen, you rebels, must we bring you water out of this rock?” Then Moses raised his arm and struck the rock twice with his staff. Water gushed out, and the community and their livestock drank. But the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not trust in me enough to honor me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community into the land I give them.” These were the waters of Meribah, where the Israelites quarreled with the LORD and where he was proved holy among them.

Num 24:21 Then he saw the Kenites and spoke his message: “Your dwelling place is secure, your nest is set in a rock;

Deu 32:3 I will proclaim the name of the LORD. Oh, praise the greatness of our God!
Deu 32:4 He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.

Deu_32:15 Jeshurun grew fat and kicked; filled with food, they became heavy and sleek. They abandoned the God who made them and rejected the Rock their Savior.

Here is a twist that most Bible readers bypass

What is the actual word for “Rock” in the Hebrew and Greek

Starting with the Greek as pointed out by a brother in a bible study and Petros vs Petra/Peteras and we added other rocks that included Litho/s and Eephon…

  • Petros (masculine) as in Peter the Rock or more as a Stone that is movable
  • Petras or Petra/Petrah (feminine) which is used for Christ  being a great rock or Mountain that is a Rock that is unmovable as being a slap of a Rock as in tablet or finished large rock 1st Corinthians 10:3-4 They all ate the same spiritual food and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ.
  • Lithos or Lethon Precious Stone as in Diamond or other… 1st Peter_2:8  “A stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall.” They stumble because they disobey the message–which is also what they were destined for. Rom 9:33  As it is written: “See, I lay in Zion a stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall, and the one who believes in him will never be put to shame.” Act 4:11 Jesus is “‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’ Revelations 21:19 The foundations of the city walls were decorated with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald,
  • Lithina (feminine) Revelations 9:20 The rest of mankind who were not killed by these plagues still did not repent of the work of their hands; they did not stop worshiping demons, and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone and wood–idols that cannot see or hear or walk.
  • Ephon as in a Pebble smooth stone small used for casting lots and can be white or black Revelations 2:17 Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it.
  • AkrogOniaiou the extreme corner (No mention of a stone but of location only) Ephesians 2:19-20 Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.

Important Note about the goal of what is said on this Blog

Though this site might contain some offensive material it is not intended to offend anyone it is just the facts and understanding of what is said in the bible… It is an equipping site to know how to answer these tough questions when they are thrown at you by those that want to victimize the Truth and Christ… We are to defend the faith and the truth

The 1st and most important goal is salvation and to bring people to understand what is said in the biblical context

Our mission as Christians should always be attracting people to Christ and giving them the chance to hear about Christ

We are not to force people into accepting our views or opinions…

Peter 3:15-18 But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander. For it is better, if it is God’s will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit.

Matthew 5:43-48 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbori and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Now there are two kinds of people that persecute Christ

  • Those that are doing it and not know that they are wrong as in those that
    • Christ prayed for in Luke 23:34 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.
    • Philip prayed for in Acts 7:60 Then he fell on his knees and cried out, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” When he had said this, he fell asleep.
    • Gamaliel said Acts 5:34-39 But a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law, who was honored by all the people, stood up in the Sanhedrin and ordered that the men be put outside for a little while. Then he addressed the Sanhedrin: “Men of Israel, consider carefully what you intend to do to these men. Some time ago Theudas appeared, claiming to be somebody, and about four hundred men rallied to him. He was killed, all his followers were dispersed, and it all came to nothing. After him, Judas the Galilean appeared in the days of the census and led a band of people in revolt. He too was killed, and all his followers were scattered. Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.”
    • Paul said in 1st Corinthians 5:9 For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.
  • Those that do it because of selfish motives and hatred to God
    • Luke 20:13-16 “Then the owner of the vineyard said, ‘What shall I do? I will send my son, whom I love; perhaps they will respect him.’“But when the tenants saw him, they talked the matter over. ‘This is the heir,’ they said. ‘Let’s kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’ So they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him.“What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them? He will come and kill those tenants and give the vineyard to others.”

    • John 11:50 You do not realize that it is better for you that one man die for the people than that the whole nation perish.”

See there are two kinds one kind that needs education and one kind that needs debunking and a strong disqualification

People should never be your enemies, Satan is the enemy… do not lose hope that that someone might one day accept Christ… Love is the strongest weapon we have… Prayers are the key and the right attitude is that little push…

I always pray to God to prepare me to be a good image of Christ through what I will say or do and I need God to prepare the mind of those whom I will talk to to understand and save

James 5:20 remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins.

Zachariah 1:3 Therefore tell the people: This is what the LORD Almighty says: ‘Return to me,’ declares the LORD Almighty, ‘and I will return to you,’ says the LORD Almighty.

2nd Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

John 10:11-18 …Good Shepherd…vs. Ezekiel 34

Joh 10:11 I am the Good Shepherd! The Good Shepherd lays down His life on behalf of the sheep.
Joh 10:12 But the hireling, not even being a shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and forsakes the sheep and flees. And the wolf seizes them, and scatters the sheep.
Joh 10:13 But the hireling flees because he is a hireling, and there is not a care to him concerning the sheep.
Joh 10:14 I am the Good Shepherd, and I know those that are Mine, and I am known by the ones that are Mine.
Joh 10:15 Even as the Father knows Me, I also know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep.
Joh 10:16 And I have other sheep which are not of this fold. I must also lead those, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock, one Shepherd.
Joh 10:17 For this reason My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life, that I may take it again.
Joh 10:18 No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down from Myself. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it again. I received this commandment from My Father.

Eze 34:1 And the Word of Jehovah was to me, saying,
Eze 34:2 Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel. Prophesy and say to them, to the shepherds, So says the Lord Jehovah: Woe to the shepherds of Israel who are feeding themselves! Should not the shepherds feed the flock?
Eze 34:3 You eat the fat and clothe yourselves with the wool, you sacrifice the fat ones, and you do not feed the flock.
Eze 34:4 You have not made the weak strong; and you have not healed the sick, and you have not bound up the broken. And the banished have not been brought back, and you have not sought the lost, but you rule them with force and with harshness.
Eze 34:5 And they were scattered for lack of a shepherd. And they became food to all the beasts of the field when they were scattered.
Eze 34:6 My sheep strayed through all the mountains and on every high hill. And My sheep were scattered on all the face of the earth, and none searched, and none sought for them.
Eze 34:7 For this reason, shepherds, hear the Word of Jehovah:
Eze 34:8 As I live, declares the Lord Jehovah, surely because My sheep became a prey, and My sheep became food for all the beasts of the field, from not having a shepherd, and because My shepherds did not search for My sheep, but the shepherds fed themselves and did not feed the flock,
Eze 34:9 so, O shepherds, hear the Word of Jehovah:
Eze 34:10 So says the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I am against the shepherds, and I will require My sheep from their hand and cause them to cease from pasturing the sheep. And the shepherds shall no longer feed themselves, for I will deliver My sheep from their mouth, and they will not be food to devour.
Eze 34:11 For so says the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I Myself will search for My sheep, and seek them out.
Eze 34:12 As a shepherd seeks his flock in the day that he is among his scattered sheep, so I will seek out My sheep and will deliver them from all the places where they were scattered in a day of cloud, and thick cloud.
Eze 34:13 And I will bring them out from the peoples, and gather them from the lands, and I will bring them to their land and feed them on the mountains of Israel, by the ravines, and in all the dwelling places of the land.
Eze 34:14 I, even I, will feed them in a good pasture, and on the high mountains of Israel their fold shall be. They shall lie there in a good fold, and they shall feed in a fat pasture, all the mountains of Israel.
Eze 34:15 I will feed My sheep, and I will make them lie down, declares the Lord Jehovah.
Eze 34:16 I will seek the lost, and I will return the banished. And I will bind up the broken, and I will make the weak strong. But I will destroy the fat and the strong, I will feed them with judgment.
Eze 34:17 And you, My flock, so says the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I judge between lamb and lamb, between rams and he goats.
Eze 34:18 Is it a small thing to you to have fed on the good pasture, but you must trample the rest of your pastures with your feet? And have you drunk of the clear waters, but the rest you must foul with your feet?
Eze 34:19 And My sheep, what your feet have trampled, they must feed on, and they drink what your feet have fouled.
Eze 34:20 So the Lord Jehovah says this to them: Behold, I, even I, will even judge between the fat lamb and the lean lamb.
Eze 34:21 Because you have thrust with side and with shoulder, and have pushed all the weak with your horns until you have scattered them to the outside.
Eze 34:22 I also will save My flock, and they shall no longer be for a prey. And I will judge between lamb and lamb.
Eze 34:23 And I will raise up over them one Shepherd. And He shall feed them. My servant David, He shall feed them, and He shall be their Shepherd.
Eze 34:24 And I, Jehovah, will be their God, and My servant David shall be a ruler among them. I, Jehovah, have spoken.
Eze 34:25 And I will cut a covenant of peace with them and make evil beasts cease out of the land. And they shall live in the wilderness securely and sleep in the forests.
Eze 34:26 And I will make them and the places around My hill a blessing. And I will bring down the shower in its season, there shall be showers of blessing.
Eze 34:27 And the tree of the field shall give its fruit, and the earth shall yield its increase. And they shall be securely on their land. And they shall know that I am Jehovah when I have broken the staffs of their yoke, and have rescued them from the hand of those who enslaved them.
Eze 34:28 And they shall not any more be a prey to the nations, and the beast of the land shall not eat them. But they shall live securely, and no one shall terrify them.
Eze 34:29 And I will raise up for them a noted planting place, and they shall not any more be of those gathered by famine in the land. And they shall not any more bear the shame of the nations.
Eze 34:30 And they shall know that I, Jehovah their God, am with them, and they are My people, the house of Israel, declares the Lord Jehovah.
Eze 34:31 And you, My sheep, the sheep of My pasture, you are men. I am your God, declares the Lord Jehovah.

Mark 12 Jesus is the only Son of God and Heir

Mar 12:1 And He began to speak to them in parables: “A man planted a vineyard, and set a fence around it,” and dug a winevat, “and built a tower.” And he rented it to vinedressers and went away. Isa. 5:1, 2

Mar 12:2 And at the season, he sent a slave to the vinedressers, that he might receive from the vinedressers the fruit of the vineyard.
Mar 12:3 But taking him, they beat him, and sent him away empty.
Mar 12:4 And again he sent to them another slave; stoning that one, they struck him in the head and sent him away, insulting him.
Mar 12:5 And again, he sent another, and they killed that one; also many others, indeed beating these, and killing these.
Mar 12:6 Yet having one son, his own beloved, then he sent him to them also, last of all, saying, They will have respect for my son.
Mar 12:7 But these vinedressers said to themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him and the inheritance will be ours.
Mar 12:8 And taking him, they killed him and threw him outside the vineyard.
Mar 12:9 What, then, will the lord of the vineyard do? He will come and will destroy the vinedressers and will give the vineyard to others.
Mar 12:10 Have you not even read this Scripture: The “Stone which the builders rejected, this One came to be Head of the Corner;
Mar 12:11 this came about from the Lord, and it is marvelous in our eyes”? Psalm 118:22, 23; Acts 4:11
Mar 12:12 And they sought to seize Him, yet feared the crowd. For they knew that He spoke the parable against them. And leaving Him, they went away.
Mar 12:13 And they sent some of the Pharisees and of the Herodians to Him, that they might catch Him in a word.
Mar 12:14 And coming, they said to Him, Teacher, we know that You are true, and there is not a care to You about anyone, for You do not look to the face of men, but teach on the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?
Mar 12:15 Should we give, or should we not give? But knowing their hypocrisy, He said to them, Why do you tempt Me? Bring Me a denarius that I may see.
Mar 12:16 And they brought one. And He said to them, Whose image and inscription is this? And they said to Him, Caesar’s.
Mar 12:17 And answering, Jesus said to them, Give back the things of Caesar to Caesar, and the things of God to God. And they marveled at Him.
Mar 12:18 And Sadducees came to Him, who say there is no resurrection. And they questioned Him, saying,
Mar 12:19 Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a brother of anyone should die and leave behind a wife, and leave no children, that his brother should take his wife and raise up seed to his brother. Deut. 25:5
Mar 12:20 Then there were seven brothers. And the first took a wife, and dying, he left no seed.
Mar 12:21 And the second took her, and died, and neither did he leave seed; and the third likewise.
Mar 12:22 And all seven took her and left no seed. Last of all the woman also died.
Mar 12:23 Then in the resurrection, when they rise again, of which of them will she be the wife? For the seven had her as wife.
Mar 12:24 And answering, Jesus said to them, Do you not err because of this, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God?
Mar 12:25 For when they rise again from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are as angels in Heaven.
Mar 12:26 But concerning the dead, that they are raised, have you not read in the book of Moses, as God spoke to him at the Bush, saying, “I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob”? Ex. 3:6
Mar 12:27 He is not the God of the dead, but God of the living. Therefore, you greatly err.
Mar 12:28 And coming up, one of the scribes, hearing them arguing, knowing that He answered them well, he questioned Him, What is the first commandment of all?
Mar 12:29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is: “Hear, Israel. The Lord our God is one Lord,
Mar 12:30 and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul” and with all your mind, “and with all your strength.” This is the first commandment. Deut. 6:4, 5
Mar 12:31 And the second is like this, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” There is not another commandment greater than these. Lev. 19:18
Mar 12:32 And the scribe said to Him, You say well, Teacher. You have spoken according to truth, “that God is one,” Deut. 6:4, 5 and “there is no other besides Him;” Deut. 4:35
Mar 12:33 “and to love Him from all the heart”, and from all the understanding, “and from all the soul, and from all the strength;” Deut. 6:4, 5 and “to love one’s neighbor as oneself” Lev. 19:18 is more than all the burnt offerings and the sacrifices.
Mar 12:34 And seeing that he answered intelligently, Jesus said to him, You are not far from the kingdom of God. And no one dared to question Him any more.
Mar 12:35 And teaching in the temple, answering, Jesus said, How do the scribes say that Christ is the son of David?
Mar 12:36 For David himself said by the Holy Spirit, “The Lord said to my Lord, Sit off My right until I place Your enemies as a footstool for Your feet.” LXX-Psa. 109:1; MT-Psa. 110:1
Mar 12:37 Then David himself calls Him Lord. And from where is He his son? And the large crowd heard Him gladly.
Mar 12:38 And He said to them in His teaching, Be careful of the scribes, those desiring to walk about in robes, and greetings in the markets,
Mar 12:39 and chief seats in the synagogues, and chief couches in the dinners,
Mar 12:40 those devouring the houses of widows, and for a pretense praying at length. These will receive more abundant judgment.
Mar 12:41 And sitting down opposite the treasury, Jesus watched how the crowd threw copper coins into the treasury. And many rich ones threw in much.
Mar 12:42 And coming, one poor widow threw in two lepta (which is a kodrantes).
Mar 12:43 And having called His disciples near, He said to them, Truly I say to you that this poor widow has thrown in more than all of those casting into the treasury.
Mar 12:44 For all threw in out of that abounding to them, but she out of her poverty threw in all, as much as she had, her whole livelihood.

John 10:33-36 …”I said, you are gods”?…

Joh 10:33-36 The Jews answered Him, saying, We do not stone You concerning a good work, but concerning blasphemy; and because You, being a man, make Yourself God. Jesus answered them, Has it not been written in your Law, “I said, you are gods”? If He called those gods with whom the Word of God was, and the Scripture cannot be broken, do you say of Him whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, You blaspheme, because I said, I am Son of God?

This is a misunderstood passage which in many cases interrelated as man can be god!!! where is this said and for what purpose? what does this passage really means?

First of all Jesus was not disqualifying Himself as the Son of God or making Himself equal to them in title. Jesus as in many occasions answering them by asking them a question. In away He is pushing them to evaluate the value of being sons of god vs. Son of God… He is on the attack as in many occasions because of their hypocrisy

The source is Psalms

Psalms 82:1-8 A Psalm of Asaph God stands in the assembly of the mighty; He judges in the midst of the gods. Until when will you judge unjustly, and lift up the faces of the wicked? Selah. Judge the poor and fatherless; do justice to the afflicted and needy. Deliver the poor and needy; save out of the hand of the wicked. They neither know nor will understand; they walk in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken. I have said, You are gods, and all of you are sons of the Most High. you shall die as men, and fall like one of the rulers. Rise, O God, judge the earth; for You shall inherit in all the nations. (Note gods here is the word Elohim)

To who is it said?

God here is being among those appointed high positions as judges and rulers/kings (lords over the people) Asaph who was a writer during the time of David and Soloman is pressed and is rhetorically asking the following questions… Rulers or judges here are not actual god but title similar to that that was given to Moses when God said to him I am making you a god to pharaoh Exo 7:1  And Jehovah said to Moses, See, I have made you a god to Pharaoh; and your brother Aaron shall be your prophet. though the exact word in Hebrew is Elohim it is a title of being a judge or an overseer

In the Hebrew Jewish view Elohim is closely associated with creation and judging as we can see here God is calling these overseers as judges that are unjust

The matter of fact these people in Psalms are punished and are wicked and their end is death…

Going back to John then, we see Jesus not denying his identity as God but questioning the understanding and wisdom of those that are judging him and are given the scripture… Jesus actually here is accusing them of being like those in the Psalms and that even provoked them even more…

See at the end Jesus was cursing these people that are attacking his deity. Such people are hypocrite and need to be answered and shut down, this is exactly what Jesus did and at the end He left them to fight it out and judge themselves… They were judging Jesus the true Judge and got what they deserved a mouthful…

The Son of Man (title Jesus used for himself)

Psalms 80:17 Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, upon the son of
man [whom] thou madest strong for thyself. (Messianic Passage)

though many prophets in the old testament were called son of man they are an image of the true Son of Man who is Jesus Christ

Ezekiel for example was called son of man many times

Daniel 7:13-14 I saw in the night visions, and, behold, [one] like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. {7:14} And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion [is] an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom [that] which shall not be destroyed. (Messianic Passage)

Matthew 8:20 And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air [have] nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay [his] head.

Matthew 9:6 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house.

Matthew 10:23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come. {10:24} The disciple is not above [his] master, nor the servant

Matthew 11:19 The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.

Matthew 12:8 For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.

Matthew 12:32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the [world] to come.

{12:40} For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

{13:37} He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of

{13:41} The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;

{16:13} When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? {16:14} And they said, Some [say that thou art] John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. {16:15} He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? {16:16} And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. {16:17} And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed [it] unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. {16:18} And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and

{16:27} For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.

{24:29} Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of
the heavens shall be shaken: {24:30} And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. {24:31} And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

John {13:31} Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him. {13:32} If God be glorified in him, God shall also glorify him in himself, and shall straightway glorify him.

John 171These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: 2As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. 3And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. 4I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. 5And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

Acts 7:54 When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with [their] teeth. {7:55} But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly
into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, {7:56} And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.

Revelation {1:13} And in the midst of the seven candlesticks [one] like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.

Revelation {14:14} And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud [one] sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle.

See Jesus did not want to offend people who do not understand who He is, that is why He made people think and understand who He is. Who do you say I Am? Do you believe in the Son of Man? but at the same time He provided strong deviance that showed His Devin Nature and Identity. He said He forgive sins, He said He is the Lord of the Sabbath, He said He will come down with His Glory and hi angels, He said that He is Eternal… The disciples on the other hand used his glorified Title as being the Son of God
